The product listing checklist for Amazon and Etsy sellers
Before you publish a product, check six things: a pure-white main image at 1600 pixels, a title that front-loads keywords in the first 80 to 120 characters, five benefit-led bullets, backend keywords under 249 bytes, all 13 Etsy tags filled with phrases, and a final pass for readability and prohibited claims. Work through the boxes below for each listing.
1. Main product image
- Pure white background at RGB 255,255,255. Off-white or light gray can trigger automated suppression on Amazon.
- Product fills at least 85% of the frame, shown outside its packaging.
- At least 1600 pixels on the longest side so the zoom feature turns on.
- 1:1 square frame is the safest aspect ratio for the main slot; JPEG preferred, under 10 MB.
- No text, logos, badges, borders, or props on the main image. Save those for the secondary slots.
2. Amazon title
- Front-load the top keywords in the first 80 to 120 characters, the part weighted most and shown on mobile.
- Include brand, product type, and one or two attributes buyers actually search for.
- Read it back as a phrase, not a keyword pile. A title a human would type beats a stuffed one.
3. Amazon bullets
- Write five bullets. Open each with the benefit in a few strong words, then the feature that delivers it.
- Benefit first, spec second. "Stays cold 24 hours - double-wall vacuum insulation" beats the spec alone.
4. Amazon backend keywords
- Stay under 249 bytes. This hidden field is for search only; buyers never see it.
- Add synonyms and long-tail phrases you could not fit into the title or bullets.
- Single spaces, not commas, and do not repeat words already in your title.
5. Etsy tags and title
- Use all 13 tag slots, each up to 20 characters, with multi-word phrases.
- Front-load the primary keyword in the first 40 characters of the Etsy title.
- First 160 characters of the description keyword-rich and natural, like a mini-title.
- Do not repeat title words in tags. Use the space for synonyms and long-tail variations.
6. Before you publish
- Re-check the main image passes the white-background and 85% fill rules.
- Read the title on a phone. Confirm the front of it stands alone where mobile truncates.
- Remove unverifiable claims. No "best", no fake original prices, no guaranteed-rank promises.
